Innovative Structural Safety Monitoring System

An innovative system for wireless real-time monitoring of stresses in buildings, both existing and new buildings, in order to record their response and assess their safety during their life cycle and in particular during earthquakes or other extreme environmental actions. Demonstration of this system is given through live experiments with the aid of scale models and tensegrity structures.

Tensegrity Structures with antagonistic superelastic cables project. The deployable tensegrity structure is used, for example, also to build deployable antennas in orbit for satellite communication. The project envisages an experimental model of shape change structure driven by a pair of nitinol antagonist cables.
