Gerold Esser is assistant professor at the department of History of Art and Architecture, Building Archaeology and Conservation of Monuments at Vienna University of Technology. Born in October 1965, he graduated in architecture at Berlin University of Technology in 1999, has been visiting scholar at the Instituto di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV) in 1996 and 1997, completed his phd at TU Vienna in 2008. He is a founder of EKG-BAUKULTUR, an international working office for the documentation of cultural heritage, based at Vienna and Berlin.

He has been responsible of several research projects of TU Vienna concerned with the documentation and building archaeology of monuments in Austria and Italy, producing publications on the argument.

Main research field: building archaeology, architectural documentation, innovative measuring techniques, planning and building in historical contexts.
